I’m on a sabbatical this year. One of the many things on my list of things to do/learn is to increase my knowledge of growing food. So I signed up for a course with Agscape. It’s free for teachers and it’s called Business of Food 101. The course covers topics like resources for teachers to teach food literacy, food security, safety, business aspect, and climate change, amongst others. So far it’s very interesting. It is self-directed but there are quizzes to test your understanding and I get a course grade. I’m enjoying it.
While reading through the material for the course, I multitasked with cutting up yogurt and sour cream tubs to make plant markers. I’ve already cut hundreds of these but I’ve also used at least 150 of them with my seed starting last week! Free plant markers – just a pair of scissors and some empty plastic tubs. They work great! Also a great activity to help you prepare for spring.

Today was a pretty cold day – 7 below zero, but the sun was shining bright. We took the kids out for a walk at Lake Wilcox – the entire lake was frozen! It was beautiful. I don’t think I’ve ever seen it frozen in its entirety before. An area was cleared for skating and there were tracks everywhere. The expanse was breathtaking. Kids enjoyed themselves even though the temps were low.

Here are Michael and the kids walking on the frozen lake.

I hope you had a chance to get out, even if it was for just 30 min. Enjoy the winter – it really does not last that long! Before you know it, spring will be here!!!
