It’s amazing how quickly the day goes by when you are not working. This sabbatical year has been very productive so far! We’ve done and accomplished so much that I can’t imagine ever going back to work. Eeek!
So I made plans to go to the zoo with Mika today. Yes, it was -13 C outside but the sun was also shining so brightly! With lunch packed and our warmest jackets on, we drove the kids to school and off we went to the Toronto Zoo!

Our first stop was the greenhouse. I could have spent more time in there just admiring all the plants. Granted, this is no Botanical Garden! However, there was plenty of variety to see – orchids, succulents and more. I even got to see the Corpse Flower plant. So cool! It alternates between a large stem with leaves and a bulb that flowers. What a unique plant!!! So amazing.
Because we went early in the day, we got to see many active animals such as the Amur tiger, polar bears, red pandas, wombats and Arctic Wolves. In past visits in the summer, we almost never get to see these animals as much! Most of the animals really prefer cooler temperatures as our summers get too hot and humid for them. We are definitely thinking of coming back again with the kids. They are going to love it!
