Spring Excitement

Happy Friday! I was out grocery shopping the other day and saw this outside my local grocery store. You can imagine my excitement – my heart was racing! The prices were amazing so I couldn’t resist!

You might be thinking, “It’s too early to do anything as the ground is still frozen!”. That’s partially true. However, we also happen to have a bunch of raised beds and a bunch of windows we salvaged from a dump site! So I decided that I would make a makeshift cold frame.

Cold-hardy crops like radishes, lettuce, beets, spinach and Swiss chard can be planted at this time. To be honest, this works great for me as I’m running out of space in the basement! I made sure to mulch and I used the spent pine shavings from our chickens as an added fertilizer.

I’m counting down the days until I can work outside in the garden again. In the meantime, I’m going to tend to my seedlings in the basement.

Are you growing any seedlings for this spring?
