Today is a mild Monday morning – overcast and moist from the morning dew and rain. While the kids were getting themselves ready to head out the door, I went for a gander in the garden. So many things are happily growing!

This is the first time ever that we’re getting to observe and enjoy all the new spring growth in our garden! Scarlet bee balm is a favourite among the pollinators like bees and hummingbirds. The plant has many names – Oswego, Bergamot, Monarda Didyma, and crimson bee balm amongst many others. The leaves can be steeped for tea and has many medicinal properties. Antiseptic properties make this plant useful in treating wounds and infections.

Now that the temperatures are starting to stay above freezing at night, the cold hardy crops are growing better and the lettuce seeds i sowed about a week ago have begun to germinate. It’s so exciting to see green growth in the beds!

Back in Feb and March, I sowed a bunch of flower seeds in containers. I have been checking on them regularly every time I go to the garden. Right now I have them in three different spots in the garden so I will have to consolidate them to one area so it’s easier to check in all of them. Some containers have no growth at all so I will have to resize these seeds.
How’s your garden coming along? I’d love to hear about it. Thanks for stopping by!
